THE BIG LEMON
Participant: Zafenat Smith Borges
The El Gran Limón project seeks to transform the economic and social reality of the Limón province through the creation of a tourist park whose main attraction will be a giant Ferris wheel, iconic to the Costa Rican Caribbean. This space will serve as an engine for economic reactivation, generating direct and indirect employment, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and strengthening the sense of Limonense identity and pride. Furthermore, it will boost the development of micro-enterprises related to tourism, gastronomy, culture, and crafts, integrating the community into the sustainable economic growth of the region.
BIOMERAKI
Participants: Adrián Ulloa López and Yehudy Ruíz Londoño
Bio-Meraki is a biomedical project that creates affordable, sustainable, and customizable upper-limb myoelectric prostheses. It is estimated that in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, more than 30 million people need prostheses, many of whom cannot access functional solutions due to their high costs. Upper-limb myoelectric prostheses can cost from US$10,000 upwards, which makes them inaccessible to a large part of the Latin American population.
